Chinese New Year Eve Reunion Dinner 2011 @ Home

During the Chinese New Year's Eve, families will gather for a feast to celebrate. This meal is known as  ''Tuan Yuan Fan'' or could be translated as Reunion Dinner. Reunion dinner, traditionally, includes chicken and pork.

Following my family tradition, the feast will includes Kiu Nyuk (Hakka Braised Yam and Pork), Steamed Whole Chicken, Fresh Lettuce and Braised Mushroom.
Kiu Nyuk (Hakka Braised Yam and Pork)
Kiu Nyuk is one of my mom's signature dish. Cooked with mom secret recipe, the Kiu Nyuk was prepared few days earlier.

Prawn and Mushroom cooked with Pineapple
Prawn is believe to be one of the auspicious dish due to its pronounciation, 'Ha' (in Cantonese), which means 'laugh'. Normally, dish used Big Prawn will be name as 'Ha Ha Dai Siew' or loosely translated as 'Laugh Out Loud'. However, in my family, we were not a fan of prawn, hence, medium size prawn was used. Cooked with pineapple and mushroom, the dish is healthy yet appetizingly good.

Braised Mushroom with Sea Cucumber and Deer's Tendon
An exotic dish which was cooked for hours. Another famous Chinese New Year's dish.
Fresh Lettuce
Fresh Lettuce is use to wrap with the delicious flavoured dishes.
Cold Dish - Jellyfish with Peanut Sauce
Springy jellyfish topped with sweet and sourish peanut sauce.

Choy Sum with Shellfish
A vegetable dish is a must!

Steamed Whole Chicken
Traditionally, the Steamed Chicken dish is a must during reunion dinner.

Radish with Dried Oyster Soup
Besides having the auspicious name, 'Choy Tao Ho Si', soup is also a very important dish in a Canton's family.
A total of 8 Dishes for the Reunion Dinner
