Manneken Pis’s fries or chips are probably the most famous food items in Amsterdam, famously served and eaten by the locals topped with rich mayonnaise, the Vlaamse Frites (Flemish fries) as they are known here. Manneken Pis’s ranks so high because it uses freshly sliced potatoes instead of frozen ones, fries them in fresh fat, and liberally salts the fries before copiously slathering them with one of the twenty-odd sauces and condiments on offer.  On a Friday or Saturday night or early morning, don’t be surprised to see throngs of people waiting in line so they can sate their drunken or stoned munchies with a portion of fresh fries. This place is on the 3rd floor of the Sungei Wang Plaza where most of the food vendors are located. They have a couple varieties of takoyaki (octopus balls) and okonomiyaki (flat cake of unsweetened batter fried with various ingredients). This is the Osaka-style (origin in Osaka Japan) which is doughy, soft, hot and steamy - cooked through with lots of nori and katsuo.

One of the famous Japanese cuisines is Takoyaki (“Fried Octopus Ball”) which is so popular that 60% of Osaka household owns Takoyaki griddle. It became famous that it’s seen as a future “fast food” commodity of Japan and to be distributed worldwide. Currently, Takoyaki is marketed not only in Japan but also in China, Taiwan, Macao, Hong Kong, Philippines, Singapore and in the United States. Takoyaki are known as octopus (tako) balls (“Fried Octopus Balls”) is a savory ball shaped Japanese dumpling perfectly grilled in a special Takoyaki pan whereas Okonomiyaki is a Japanese savory pancake containing variety of ingredients and referred to as a “Japanese pizza” or “Osaka soul food”. Both foods are widely available throughout the Japan.

We venture into Wai Sek Gai (Pure Glutton Street), a hidden street in between shophouses in Pudu converted into a food street with stalls offering all sorts of varieties with tables and stools all along the street. KL local favorite street food, it used to be one of the most happening streets decades ago. Famous for its food, that's how it gained the name of “Wai Sek Kai”. The glory of the food on this street lives till this day. Most of the stalls here open from 4.30 pm till late.
