Although Char kway teow has a reputation of being unhealthy due to its high saturated fat content, the dish was first invented mainly served to labourers. The high fat content and low cost of the dish made it attractive to these people as it was a cheap source of energy and nutrients. Throughout the years, these delicious dish gained its popularity and become a common hawker's food loves by all.

How Lee Coffee Shop @ Foh Sang

Image
If you love Chinese porridge, How Lee Coffee Shop is the place to go. This shop has been around for decades and the surrounding areas of Foh San hasn't change much over the years. I highly recommended the Seafood Porridge (Large) for under RM20, this is considerably affordable by Kota Kinabalu's standards, remember to add century egg and seaweed for extra flavoring. What's nice? The pork leg vinegar and Kon Lau Mien (top with pork lard oil), if you like this dish, this is also the place to indulge. How Lee opens from 6pm till late and if you want to savour the porridge here, it is best to get there early as seats and tables are very limited.

These ‘Three dishes and one soup’ normally include a meat dish, a fish dish, a vegetable dish, and a soup. Although it is not a rule, if we have guests at home or go to restaurants, this is normally what we would order. The stable food is usually steamed rice. I'm back to Bornion Restaurant for a complete sit down dinner!!!

Jin Jin Seafood Restaurant @ Hilltop

Chinese like their soup, traditionally served invigorating tonic their body system and best known for Cantonese food which is easily found everywhere. The food is quickly stir-fried with just a touch of oil and the result is crisp and fresh. With Cantonese food, the more people sitting at a meal the better, because dishes are traditionally shared so everyone will manage to sample the greatest variety. A corollary of this is that Cantonese food should be balanced: traditionally, all foods are said to be either Yin [cooling] like vegetables, clear soup; or Yang [heaty] like starchy foods and meat. A cooling food should be balance with a heaty food and with not too much of one or the other.
