First CNY Eve with the In-Laws
Reunion lunch with the in-laws. That night, something different and special was going to happen thanks to my sis-in-law. Being a noted newscaster on RTM, she was asked if the crew could come over and film us during the reunion dinner. Our dinner was special in the sense that we had some Malay and Indian friends coming over, indeed a 1Malaysia reunion, not just for the Chinese!

This year marks the first time I’m celebrating the Chinese New Year with my in-laws. According to the Chinese tradition, the reunion dinner is very important and brings significant meaning to the family on the eve of Chinese New Year. Since I’m now part of Saucer’s family, my reunion dinner this year was held at his mother’s place – a brand new experience to me. We were there just before lunch, to witness a table outside of the house, full of delicious dishes of meat, vegetables and fruits.

It is our custom to give offerings and prayers to the ancestors first before we had our own feast. The table was filled with plates of chicken wings, BBQ pork, steamed chicken, pan-fried fish, yam cakes and fatt gou.

So much food!
When all the dishes were ready, we burned some red Chinese candles and got ready to pray.

Each of us grabbed 3 pieces of joss sticks, burnt them and said our silent prayers as well as asked our ancestors to have a good meal on this auspicious day.
Even the little ones followed the tradition
