Rock Road Seafood, KUCHING MALAYSIA
Over the Easter break, I visited Kuching and now I am in Bintulu for a couple of days before i take off to KL city again. I took a cab from Singapore to Johor Airport and a flight to Kuching. I managed to peruse the Johor Senai airport which is under renovation at the moment. Surprisingly they had a very nice bistro bakery nested at the end of the building. "Lavender Bistro" was the name of the place and they had a wide variety of eastern n western food. As it was already 4 pm and i still haven't had the chance to have my breakfast. So i ordered a cup of cafe mocha and peanut butter thick toast.
The coffee was a tad too hot when it arrived. By right (i know there is no right or wrong to it), when it arrives it should be at a temperature that is drinkable. Hot enough but not too hot that you have to blow it to cool down. So i let it rest for a bit before i actually started sipping it. Taste wise, I'd rate it a 5/10. The coffee cost RM8.90 (still cheaper than Starbucks and Coffee Bean)
The peanut butter thick toast arrived not long after. It was really thick. Presentation wise, i thought it look visually appetizing. The toast was drizzled with some honey and a block of butter and raisins. The butter was a bit hard and not at room temperature. Therefore, it was not spreadable. The toast was a bit too dense for my liking. I would have preferred it slightly fluffier on the inside. But what really tickled my fancy was the chunky peanut butter spread that was smothered all over the toast. Normally most places will use the creamy peanut butter. I'd rate this 6.5/10. The toast cost RM6.90. Toast Box still does it for me =)
Most people that visit Kuching will normally have the "Kolo Mee" and the "Sarawak Laksa". Well, when i saw the "Kolo Mee" it didn't really caught my attention as the colour was rather pale and I'd much prefer the "KL style of kan lau mian". In Bintulu, they have their own version which is what they call "Kampua Mien" which is similar to "Kolo Mee". As for the "Sarawak Laksa" is slightly different from the normal curry laksa. Sarawak Laksa consist of the following: sambal balacan base, tamarind, garlic, lemon grass and coconut milk topped with bean sporouts, omelette strips, chicken strips, prawns, fresh coriander and lime. As i only managed to do a stopover in Kuching, I'll be back to try more of the local delicacies.
When I was in Kuching, we went to Rock Road Seafood Restaurant (No 101/102 2nd Mile Road) for dinner.
Since it was only the two of us having dinner, we did not managed to try as much as we would love to. The dish above is chicken with oyster mushroom, snow peas and corn. I know it is a rather simple dish but i had a sudden craving for oyster mushroom. Taste wise, it was prett ordinary. You cant get too technical with this dish. The peas was still crunchy when it arrived and it had a good balance of saltiness and pepper. Cost RM12.
The next dish is the "Specialty Hainanese Prawns RM25 and Buns RM3 ". It was absolutely delicious. The prawn was really big fat and juicy. It tasted almost like singapore chilli crab sauce.
This vege dish is rare in West Malaysia. The locals here call it "Bilin RM12". If i am not wrong, it is a kind of fern. I really like this vege purely because i dont get to eat it all the time and when fried with sambal belacan it tasted really delicious. Its nice and had a great crunch to it.
We also had the cod fish steamed cantonese style. Basically steamed with some sesame oil, soy sauce and ginger. The cod fish I was told its a Norwegian Cod Fish and was priced differently from the Cod Fish from China. This size cod fish cost us RM48. A little information about cod fish. Cod fish is a cold water fish that is high in absorbable protein and have little or no carbohydrate or fats.
Overall, we had a good dining experience here. Alright, thats it from me from the small little town of Bintulu. Back to the hustle and bustle of KL city tomorrow. Till then, stay well, be happy and stay healthy.
