Immersing discerning travellers in Sri Lanka’s rich heritage, vibrant local life, charming colonial footprints and wild nature, Anantara Kalutara Resort will offer a unique shoreline hideaway with two views of paradise when it opens in October 2016. Only 10 minutes from the historic town of Kalutara and an hour from Colombo, Anantara Kalutara Resort resides along Sri Lanka’s beautiful southwest coast. The peaceful beachfront setting between the Indian Ocean and Kalu River boasts coastal, river and lagoon frontage.
Great craftsmanship, luxurious comforts and glorious views
Surrounded by tropical gardens, towering coconut palms and a serene shoreline, simplistic elegance and great craftsmanship is inspired by the architectural vision of the late Geoffrey Bawa – Sri Lanka’s most famous architect. 141 guest rooms, suites and pool villas fuse authentic luxury with evocative Sri Lankan accents. Private balconies and terraces draw the eye to lush garden, ocean or river scenery. Rooms with signature amenities tempt lazy soaks in the bathtub, perhaps with a bottle selected from the wine humidor. Interconnecting, disabled and poolside guest rooms tailor the charms. Suites offer a comfy lounge and the one-of-a-kind One Bedroom Presidential Suite boasts a private plunge pool and sundeck. All suites and villas allow guests to listen to their favourite soundtracks on the Bose Bluetooth speaker, and a Villa Host is on hand for all special requests. One- and Two Bedroom Villas are enclosed by a garden terrace, allowing guests to swim in their private pool, sunbathe on the deck and dine outside in blissful seclusion. For shared holidays with family and friends, some of the One Bedroom Garden Pool Villas feature interconnecting gardens.
Made for romance, relaxation and families
Three restaurants dish up international favourites and local specialties, coastal Italian dining with ocean views, and the best of Thai, Indian and Chinese cuisines. Market life and master chef tips ignite culinary passions at Spice Spoons cooking school. Relax with drinks, food, music and friends at the Upper Deck Bar and Dining by Design tailors the perfect private dinner.World-class leisure facilities make resort life a pleasure. Quiet time with a coffee, book or computer time can be enjoyed at the library, which is dedicated to Geoffrey Bawa. Couples can unwind at the ocean view pool beside the elegant Italian restaurant, while families enjoy the lagoon-side pool with its Jacuzzi jets and children’s section. Yoga feels serene at the spa pavilion and gym workouts are energised by a river view, and a personal trainer if desired. Water sport thrills include jet skiing, water skiing and banana rides available at the Watersports Centre.
Anantara Spa journeys pamper with holistic Ayurvedic therapies and exotic western spa rituals for adults, teens and children. The double storey sanctuary has two yoga and meditation pavilions and is surrounded by a lotus pond. 11 luxurious treatment rooms include six for individuals, four for couples and one dedicated to Ayurvedic therapies. Children enjoy fun experiences from a chocolate oil massage to hair braiding and teen girls are treated to facials, manicures and pedicures. Teen boys are groomed and buffed and the spa also offers special ‘Mum & Me’ and ‘Dad & Me’ packages.
The family-friendly attractions begin on arrival at the resort with children receiving special treats such as chocolate chip and coconut cookies. Youngsters have their own action-packed fun at Adventurer Club, from cultural activities and outdoor games, to exciting excursions. When the time comes to leave, little ones are given a teddy bear souvenir.
The resort also offers a spectacular setting for events. Dream weddings are framed by Indian Ocean waves on soft silky sands, beside the lagoon or amidst tropical gardens. Business guests benefit from two meeting rooms and a 500-seater conference centre, expected to open in March 2017, will host lavish social and corporate functions for up to 300 guests.
