Melbourne Star Observation Wheel @ Melbourne

This one of a kind Ferris wheel as well as having the title as the only one in the southern hemisphere, gives a bird's eye view of the city of Melbourne from 120 meters (about 40 storeys) above the ground.

It was relaunched this year after about a 5 year hiatus. Each full rotation or 'flight' takes about 30 minutes, and with so many angles of Melbourne to see, you'll soon realize you are flying on cloud nine.

Its a non-stop rotation so getting on and alighting off your gondola can be something of a thrill as well, but fret not, the movement is relatively minute so your window of opportunity to enter and exit is pretty wide. Plus friendly stewards are always on site to assist you.

You get to see up to 40km in radius of Melbourne's breath taking view, an experience that is second to none. Impressive as the view is during during the day, Melbourne city lit up like an infinite fireflies from up here. The Star observation wheel then blends right into this kaleidoscope by lighting 15 million different LED lighting combination within its diameter. It is certainly an exquisite experience that one should have in a lifetime.

Look at this majestic sight, the city just glows with life and the observation wheel gives a complete unobstructed view of it all. Worth every penny of the flight.

First time visitors to Melbourne should also be happy to note that in-gondola sound system offers a voice guided tour, offering bits and pieces of historical trivia on Melbourne. Be sure to pick up a map on your way in, so you can learn a little bit of geography.

On your way out, you can pick up souvenirs and stuff to commemorate your visit. A photo of you and your family in the gondola is also available on request.
