Asian Women’s Empowerment 2014 Conference Coming To Kota Kinabalu!
The Asian Women’s Empowerment (AWE) Conference is an annual, Asia wide inspiration and motivational conference dedicated to raise awareness and promote empowerment of women in Asian communities. After the success of AWE ’13 in Kuala Lumpur (KL), the organisers decided to host AWE ’14 in Kota Kinabalu (KK). The conference will be held from 31 October to 2 November 2014 in Wisma Bandaraya. According to founder Juno Kim, AWE’s mission is to empower Asian women to think, act, and achieve. Another main goal of AWE is to encourage Asian women to follow their dreams and thrive with an independent lifestyle.
One of the reasons Kim decided to start AWE is because of her dramatic life change in the past three years. She left a mechanical engineering position and started a media company Runaway Juno Media (RunawayJuno.com). Since then, she has visited more than 35 countries and has learnt a lot about life and people.
She said, “It is hard to be women in Asia, sometimes I think. My generation is still fighting for gender equality, but our society is already deeply male dominant. I was rejected from several jobs because of my potential future as a mother and a wife. Despite the difficulties, I met so many inspiring people, women, who fought and survived. They weren't afraid to be different and strong.”
The main target audience of AWE ‘14 is Asian both male and female, Asians and non-Asians alike. This is the ideal gathering for everyone who is trying to find their true self. Participants will be able to enjoy sessions by both international and local speakers.
The sessions will discuss various topics such as living life with a purpose and the keys to living a meaningful life. Subjects such as how to survive as a freelancer, juggling working life and family will also be talked about. The more adventurous participants will also enjoy sessions on wildlife conservation and environmental issues, travelling plus dealing with health issues on the road.
Kim added: “I would like to continue to expand AWE in time as a main networking place and an important community. Right now I'm inviting these amazing speakers once a year to share their expertise, and hoping the participants are getting as much as they can. For AWE ’14, speakers are coming from USA, Korea, Australia, Indonesia, Hong Kong, and of course, Malaysia.
We are planning to make AWE's subdivision in each country for a more personalized community. I'm already seeing results from AWE '13 here and there. People's lives have been changed in a positive way ever since they met everyone at the conference. Now AWE meet ups are happening around the world. We have a good message, and hope we can spread the positive energy to more people. AWE is a support system. We are a community. We care, we listen and we are here for each other,” she concluded.
