Gin Rik Sha, Bukit Damansara

If you’re craving for a homely and comforting Indian fusion meal, look no further than Gin Rik Sha which is located in the Bukit Damansara neighbourhood. The brain child of a loving and caring mother who is passionate about cooking and always making sure that she uses only the best and freshest ingredients, the dishes at Gin Rik Sha are certainly prepared and cooked with a lot of love and attention to detail. The menu at Gin Rik Sha stays true to its founder’s core belief in serving only the best.

The newly renovated restaurant provides a cozy environment for diners to share a meal with friends and loved ones. It also has a lively, vibrant atmosphere, with an amazing bar which serves specially curated cocktails and draught beers. For the ladies, don’t miss out on Ladies Night at Gin Rik Sha every Thursday from 8pm onwards. They offer 1-for-1 cocktails and you can choose from a selection of 3 cocktails which are their Lychee Margarita, Smooth Criminal & Pineapple Express. Free flow of sangria is also served from 10pm to 11pm for the ladies.
A glance at Gin Rik Sha’s cocktails menu will leave you spoilt for choices. We tried out the P.K. cocktail which is a mix of Gin, Sweet Vermouth, Chilli Padi, Kaffir Leaf, Lime & Lemon. It was an interesting and refreshing twist on a cocktail. Don’t worry about the Chilli Padi. The cocktail has just the right amount of tang to keep you wanting more.

For the teetotalers, we also tried out the mango lassi which is certainly one of the best in town.
Moving on to the cleverly curated menu, we had the crowd-favourite Mango Chicken Pappadums to start. It was certainly the start of a very satisfying meal and after one bite, we knew why it is the one dish that was at every other table there that night.

We were equally impressed by the Slow-cooked Lamb Shank served with pooris which certainly lived up to its representation of being “delicious fall off the bone lamb”. It was tender and rich in flavours. Exactly how a Slow-cooked Lamb Shank should be. It left us wanting more. If you love lamb, you must try this dish.

For the pescatarians or those who are not a fan of red meat, we highly recommend the Bombay Masala Salmon. The baked salmon which is topped with a spicy, sweet masala and served with couscous was simply tantalizing even for those of us who were not big fans of fish.

If you’re a vegetarian, fret not because Gin Rik Sha also offers a decent variety of vegetarian options. To satisfy our curiosity, we had the vegetarian lasagna. The richness of this dish amplifies further the principle Gin Rik Sha adheres to: only the best of ingredients is used in every dish. The generous portion of lasagna contained a fair bit of vegetables and topped with an equally generous portion of cheese so much so that the non-vegetarians in us certainly saw ourselves wanting to have this dish again the next time.

We ended our sumptuous meal on a sweet note with a traditional Indian dessert known as Kulfi. It is akin to ice cream but is often described as a traditional Indian ice cream. The Kulfi at Gin Rik Sha is served with slices of caramelized banana and a lovely caramelized sesame cracker. Although the dish may sound sweet, it is surprisingly has just the right balance of sweetness.
We had a very pleasant experience especially so because of the friendly, helpful and attentive members of staff. Seek out a member of their staff if you require recommendations and they will be ready to assist on top of giving you great recommendations. We were here on a Saturday evening and the restaurant was pretty much packed around dinner time. To avoid disappointment, we would advise that you make a reservation ahead of time!
We are already planning our next visit here!
