Mother's Day Celebration at SkyAvenue

Mother's Day is a special time of the year, when people around the world gather to pay tribute to mothers everywhere. And it was heartwarming to know that Resorts World Genting (RWG) stepped up to this task by not forgetting the single mothers from far off Raub. It is fitting, considering that far-off Raub is the oldest town in Pahang and that the Single mothers invited up to RWG seldom have the chance to visit the cool resort and generally take a day off from their responsibilities. Here's a salute to you RWG!

Yours truly was invited to witness this momentous events of course, and to have lunch with one of the latest tenants at RWG's shining new mall, SkyAvenue. My adventure this time; Acme Bar and Coffee, or ABC for short.

When ABC burst into the wining and dining scene years ago, it made waves among the more discerning diners of Klang Valley. Since then it has been featured in many blogs and reviews, so it was with high expectations that I made my way to their latest eatery high up here in the city among the clouds.

Ambience wise, this place was very chic and not out of place in the sophisticated and artsy SkyAvenue. The staff here are warm and attentive to your every needs. At the time of my visit, there are plans to install a bar at the back of the restaurant.

As I was having lunch here, I was given options for a Starter, 2 Salads / Pasta or Mains, Dessert and of course the usual drink choices of water, coffee and or tea. As I had paired up with another couple of bloggers, we had the opportunity to try more.

Reader’s Tip: Please keep in mind that in Resorts World Genting, foods are priced according to those having membership with the highland resort. They do not really vary that much, but if you are one of those keen spenders, then it pays to have a membership card with Resorts World Genting!
Lunch is served!
For starters, we had the Smoked Buffalo Wings and the new Spicy Chicken Bites! The Smoked Buffalo Wings were chicken wings, grilled and smoked which was served on a bed of sweet and sour Thai Chili sauce and garnished with sesame seeds. The Spicy chicken Bites on the other hand were deep-fried marinated chicken, served with a nice cooling coriander mint yoghurt dip and liberally garnished with shoestring fries!

Because there were three of us, we opted for a salad in place of a main, which was the Chicken and Kale Taco salad. The other two choices were for mains, we ordered the Grilled Lamb Shoulder and Blackened Salmon Steak.

The Chicken and Kale Taco salad is a new addition to ABC's menu, and it consists of Sauteed Kale, Brussel Sprouts, Crispy Garlic Tortillas, Grilled Lime Chicken, Red Radish and garnished with Grated Parmesan cheese. If you want to eat clean, this is definitely the dish for you!

The Grilled Lamb Shoulder was an interesting one, it was grilled with ABC's soy-sauce chilli marinade, which imparted a rich and spicy caramelized texture. Not many will agree with me, but I found it tasty if a bit on the chewy side. It was served on a bed of mushy peas and fries.
Grilled Lamb Shoulder RM63 / RM65 For Non-Members 👍
For the Blackened Salmon Steak, a nice side of flaky salmon was grilled together with Caramelised Spicy Miso to give it a charred appearance. It was garnished with cajun spice and then served on top of garlic toast, with sides of petit salad and avocado pineapple salsa.

And of course, we had desserts which we opted for a Lava Pudding and a fascinating Cake and Ice Cream combo with sizzling sauce inside a hot plate! By this time I had wandered into the Food Coma zone, but the desserts were good!

As it was getting late in the afternoon, my party left Acme Bar and Coffee with much gratitude and proceeded to the next programme, which was a Flash Mob Performance and the Prize giving Ceremony for the winner of the Mother's Day Video Message contest as well as the presentation of hampers to the single mothers of Raub who came up to Genting that day.

The crowd delighted in the Flash Mob Performance, and everybody whipped out all manner of digital cameras to capture the action amidst all the oohs and aahs.

The guest of honour that day was Yang Berhormat Senator Datin Paduka Chew Mei Fun, the Deputy Minister of Women, Family and Community Development. Together with Miss Katherine Chew, the Vice President of Resort Communications and Public Relations of Genting Malaysia Berhad, they presented the prizes for the winner of the Mother's Day Video Message contest. After that, they presented hampers to the participating single mothers of Raub.

I learned that the generosity of Resorts World Genting with regards to the single mothers of Raub was thorough. They were ferried via bus from Raub and then treated to a Glass Floor Gondola Cable Car ride up to RWG. They had lunch at the Resort Steamboat Restaurant which we had visited before, you can read about that review here. After lunch, they went to cool off at the Genting SnowWorld before being ushered for the Flash mob performance and prize presentation. Kudos RWG!

After the event with the Single Mums, we all broke up for high tea. Six outlets at the SkyAvenue hosted our high tea, and they were Madam Waffle, Gindaco, Tokyo Secret, Inside Scoop, Just Heavenly and Gong Cha. I only had room for one dessert though, so my choice was made with Inside Scoop, which turned out to be the best decision I made that day.
My amazing NUTELLA WAFFLE, with Mint Ice Cream with a generous garnishing of nuts and marshmallow, and drizzled with chocolate syrup.
