Huckleberry After Dark @ Plaza Damansara, Damansara Heights (Serve No Pork)

Garnering praises and greeted with rave reviews from reputable opinions, we are humbled to be invited to what we now know, as-close-as-it-gets, to having L.A styled street food. All in the comfort of a rustic charm that you'd expect from old Mississippi, quite like how you'd imagine all those years from reading the adventures of Mark Twain's arguably most famous character, from which the restaurant share it's namesake.

From what started out as a day time bakery cafe that serves the best breads and pastry, it has now ventured into the dark, transforming this warm cosy cafe into a sort of naughty pub, inviting all sorts of shenanigans, displaying myriad of poison of your choice. But the food is still that same quality you'd come to expect during the day.

You've probably come to know they have a dedicated top of the line oven that produces all those awesome breads and pastries. So drool over this impressive oven... as I have.

Guest Bartender Mauricio Allende from Mexico
After dark starts to wield its horn with, The apple "Calvados" Sour (RM24.90). An apple brandy that has a light acidity with a sweet and creamy twist.
Pimm's Jug (RM59.90) is a fruity and refreshing drink, that uses fresh straberries, citrus fruit to complement this already fruity liqueur

If you are a dude and can't be bothered with artisinal drinks but still want to be a la mode, then go for these hand crafted beers : Old engine oil from Harviestoun Brewery, Scotland (RM30), Two step by Mountain Goat, Australia (RM32), Fancy Pants by Mountain goat, Australia (RM29), Punk IPA by Brewdog, Scotland (RM30) and 5 A.M by Brewdog, Scotland (RM30)
For more playful drinks, you should try these: A$ap rocky road on the top left of picture (RM23.90), a milkshake filled with Vanilla and salted caramel ice cream, homemade rocky road brownie, smores, more salted caramel, and get this: laced with copious amount of rum while the caramel had such a nice almost salt balance, which adds a little bit more of complexity to the drink. If Milkshake's a bit too rich, and you have low tolerance for alcohol, then go for this cool Mango Iced Tea (RM11.90), it definitely makes all the good food go down easily.

This Maui Waui (RM9.90) is a freshly squeezed watermellon juice, topped with sprite and a surprising twist: Jalapenos pepper. Yes you heard right, and this pairing really works.
If alcohol is not your thing, try out this Red velvet milk shake (RM15.90), rich with milky goodness and smoothly blended cakes, you have this nice luxurious, silky texture from the cake bits. To top it off you have a red velvet cookie to dip into this milky goodness.
'Grass is always greener' Mint Julep (RM24.90), is a simple straight up bourbon on ice with sugar and topped with fresh mint.

Moving on to what's in store in the food department, we already know that these guys at Huckleberry are killing it in the foodporn hashtag during the day, but at night..well..we found out that  getting here is worth the traffic because these are some of the most creative and flavourful dishes you'll ever get your mouth on. It's almost as if you are sinking your teeth into a legendary culinary feat.
We have here the house guac (RM13.90), with nacho chips made in house. The guacamole have all those necessay lumps here and there, but all the ingredients are well incorporated. it sort of congeals everything in its place. Pick up the chip and dip it, bite, then you can hear the crunch, followed by the nice balance of acid, sweetness and savouries.

Next we had this K-pop frenzy(RM19.90) lord of the wings, although quite obviously cashing in on the perpetual Korean drama trend, this in itself hold up just fine, with the way the sour tang from the sauce, works with the herbs that is just enough to bind with the meat. Laced with with and black sesame, it adds that nice earthy aroma.

For a place that is well known for its badass homemade breads, you'd certainly hold that same expectation for pizza. And they certainly held their end of the bargain. We have here, another one bite's the crust (RM32.90). As many have fallen for this, so have we. The pizza crust have just the right amount of firmness that holds all that fine ingredients together. The sauce is rich with the perfect amount of acidity and the cheese adds a sense of sweetness.

The only thing sexier than the people is the food porn and the sexiest shot all belong to this obscene burger. Beastmode is the name (RM26.90) and the bread, is crunchy from being toasted right but still light so as not to overwhelm the texture of the beef. The beef was delicate, and mild. It also has pulled beef so after a bite, you'll find it unbelievably juicy. The duck bacon that sneaks its way in makes a delicious presence and add so many flavour profiles. Overall its so compact so each bite is filling and satisfying, definitely a luxurious twist on a childhood favourite.

What's street food if ya ain't got the dawg. Here's Chilli Con Kanye (RM26.90) You've got all that spices in the chilli that are working with the ground meat that makes it is so succulent, The sausage, is juicy, while that bread, with a little bit of sweetnes, holds up like a champ. The saltiness from the cheese and acidity from the sour cream adds depth of flavour and texture.

Another staple of the American food truck scene are tacos and here we have Chuck Norris (RM21.90) The freshness of the ingredient is beautiful and bright.  The meat is moist, and incredibly tender, and most importantly, delicious.

A taco place worth it's salt would always serve fish taco, so here we have Drop the Bass (RM19.90) The slaw on this home made Mexican bread was rich, but not like, punch you in the face overpowering, and adds a little texture to the super moist, super tender, juicy, perfectly deep fried battered fish.

Lastly we tried one of their signature dessert - The mad batter (RM19.90) The hot chocolate pudding is creamy, soft, not too sweet, feels like biting into a piece of heaven, the smores and cookie crumble all mixed up to create a flavours that is just so good, and they work well together. Dig in and you'll find out that the taste, matches the fancy presentation. Everything you can think of a in a dessert, then BOOM!, it's right there.

As Mark Twain said, part of the secrets in life is to eat what you like and let the food fight it out inside of you. Although I doubt he was thinking of food at that time he wrote it, but just like that wise adage, I'm sure the good people at Huckleberry love what they do, and judging from the food, it really shows.
