MALAYSIA MODEL FESTIVAL AWARDS 2012



An estimated 1000 strong crowd, consisting of the creme de la creme and notable professionals from the modeling, fashion, and beauty industry, were in attendance at the Putrajaya Marriott Hotel and Spa on Wednesday, December 12th, 2012 to witness prestigious awards bestowed upon esteemed individuals and teams responsible for contributing to the success of our country’s modeling industry, during the inaugural Malaysia Model Festival Awards (MMFA). The award winners at this ground-breaking event of the local modeling scene, which was proudly presented by Kronenbourg 1664, were determined by voting from peers, professionals, members of the media and celebrated VIPs of the modeling industry. Besides that, the MMFA Muse Award was presented to both Amber Chia and Tengku Azura - two names that are synonymous with modeling excellence in Malaysia - in order to recognise and celebrate their careers which has contributed invaluably to our country’s modeling industry.

The two main awards of MMFA are the Female and Male Star Models of the Year, in which both its winners - Eryna Salim and Isaac Ong - will be flown to Seoul, Korea, to be exclusive recipients of the Star Model Award - Malaysia during the 8th Asia Model Festival Awards (AMFA) in 2013. Past Malaysian recipients of this prestigious award include Tini, Kelly Jagan, Wilson Tan, Deborah Henry, as well as KS Tan.
AMFA, which is touted as the Academy Awards equivalent to the Asian modeling and fashion industry, is an international red carpet event attended by a 3,000 strong live audience, that will be broadcasted over more than 20 channels across 128 countries around the world to an estimated 10 million people. International stars who have graced this event include Lin Chi-Ling, Leo Ku, Rain, Girls Generation, Wonder Girls, Big Bang, Beast, Kara, just to name a few.
In conjunction with the MMFA gala night, the grand finale of the Asia New Star Model Contest 2012 - Face of Malaysia (FOM), a nationwide star model search presented by Nestle La Cremeria, saw Gwendolyn Chin Hui Ying and Josh Ho Wei Bing walked away as the female and male winners respectively. Gwendolyn - a 21 year old accounting student who stands at 176cm tall - alongside Josh - a 24 year old finance executive who towers at 187cm - will also be sent to Seoul, Korea, to compete at the international grand finals.

This first of its kind model search, which not only takes into account modeling potential, but also potential star qualities, was judged by Chairman of the Korea Model Association (KMA) Yang Eui-Sig, President of the Korea Pro Makeup Association Ahn Mee-Ryu, International Director of KMA Raulen Lee, international model and actress Amber Chia, as well as catwalk guru Benjamin Toong. A special guest, and also award presenter, who graced the gala night with his presence is South Korean entertainer Kim Hyung-Jun - one fifth of the renowned boyband SS501. Other esteemed figures spotted amongst the guests are the revered Dato’ Jimmy Choo; top models Tini, Kelly Jagan, Cassandra Patrick, and Cay Kuijpers; beauty queens Nadine Ann Thomas, Thanuja Anathan, Elaine Daly, and Nadia Heng; fashion designers Amir Luqman, Keith Kee, and Key Ng; as well as celebrities Carmen Soo and Bernie Chan; just to name a few.

Emceed by Jojo Struys and Timothy Sangawa, the highly entertaining gala night also featured performances by electric violinist Dennis Lau, beatboxer extraordinaire Koujee, as well as singer/dancer Ryan Thoo.
