The Tree House Kitchen & Bar

I haven't been about on a foodie spree for a long time now ever since my slow recovery. March and April saw me slowly getting back into the rhythm of things, and I am glad to report that if anything, it made me appreciate more the things life had to offer. The finer things in Life! What are they? For me, it would be access to affordable good food, having good health and being secure with your loving family and friends.

And what if you can have all three at the same time? It is easy to orchestra, just give some of those you want to see a call, make a whatsapp group, and invite them all to the newest places to hang and chill in town. If you're into some retro music, wanna avoid crowded places and bad traffic, give this place a try.

My food venture this time took me to the heart of Solaris, Mont Kiara. Opened sometime in December 2018, The Tree House Kitchen & Bar is a 4000 square feet outlet with a good choice of outdoor seating in two separate alfresco areas (Author's Note: One alfresco area is for smokers! They allow drinks and ciggies there but no food.) and indoor seating is based around the bar which occupies the center of the establishment like a tree of potables and a mezzanine seating area dedicated to games. Its namesake is derived from an impressive center column rising up from the center of the establishment, like a tree of bottles and drinks. There is also a stage where they play live music. If one would have to categorise this place, I would say that it fell somewhere between a gastropub and a sportsbar.

As is my usual fashion, I took the time to walk around the outlet and observed it from every angle possible at leisure. It's the same approach I have to photographing people, everytime I am at a new place. I pace about softly, looking for parts of the scenery to reach out to me, instinctively a finger goes to camera and I take a shot and another photograph is added to the collection for review later on the computer. This place has a lot to offer, with private corners and spacious seating areas for patrons looking for that next drink. The music they had on that night was to my feel, mostly selections from the 80s and some from the 90s. They have live band performances every night, and DJs on Friday to Sunday nights. I was later seated with some other guests and met Spicy Sharon for the first time, she was pretty.
Well hello. Her name is Spicy Sharon.
Hehe, yes I can be shallow sometimes. But good company ALWAYS add to the ambience of wining and dining. 😎

"As veterans of the foodservice industry, my team and I were thrilled to offer the experience of The Tree House to the everyone. We truly believe in our menu and are excited about the direction the outlet is aiming towards which is to provide the third spot for people to be after home and work. The Tree House Kitchen & Bar is uniquely positioned in the entertainment arena, and we know that the people of Kuala Lumpur would love the good food, beverages, live performances and most definitely the vibe we give when they are here." - Amritpal Singh

After we had comfortably settled down, it came time to do what we were here for, to review the great eats they had in store! I am told that the kitchen team has about 20 years of culinary experience, and has curated an extensive menu of local and western delights sure to excite the palate.

Nachos Libre MYR25 👍
We opened up our evening with this starter, the Nachos Libre. It comes with a choice of either Chilli Beef or Chicken, with the nachos piled high and topped with Tomato Salsa, Guacamole, Jalapeno & Sour Cream Cheese Sauce. I liked it! Pro Tip: This dish was made for sharing, and you have to dig all the way to the bottom to get to the meat filling. Eat this with fingers!

Mutton Masala MYR27 👍👍

Meatlovers! Let me ask you, how many ways do you enjoy your meats? One of the higher forms of cooking meats is to stew or braise it, and of the best out there is Indian cuisine and their way of doing Masala. I have sampled many ways of doing it and here, it is sinfully good.

This dish easily made it to my top pick of the night; Boneless Lamb is marinated with Spices, Garlic, Ginger and Dried Masala. A dish of Panini bread is served as an accompaniment. I found the succulent meats quite tender, and the combination of spices lent to the spicy and savory mutton flavour.

Mamak Mee Goreng w Mutton MYR28
If you are fond of hanging out with friends on late night soirées, then you should be no stranger to this comfort food found in many local eateries in South East Asia. There are many variations of it as it varies widely from chef to chef. Yellow noodles is stir-fried with a combo of ingredients including garlic, onions, vegetables, tofu, mutton and prawns. A simple fried egg crowns the ensemble. While I am not a huge fan of yellow noodles, I found the taste of this savory dish quite delightful.

Lamb Shank Briyani MYR40 👍👍
I only learned of Briyani when I migrated to Kuala Lumpur in my mid-twenties. I have since learned to enjoy Indian cuisine with every opportunity, and personally, Briyani remains one of the top rice dishes in Asia. There is nothing quite like it, so many variations of it exist, cooked with a special combination of spices that enhances it flavour. Normally, rice is plain but when cooked this way, it transforms into the ultimate food coma inducer of delightful flavours. Here at the Tree house, this masterpiece comprises of a slow-cooked Lamb Shank in Northern Indian Curry. It is then buried under Basmati Briyani rice, and accompanied with Fruit Acar, Raita & Crispy Papadoms. I found this dish very much to my liking and had it taken away for later consumption.

Tandoori Chicken Burger MYR27
This was an interesting burger; a well-grilled piece of Tandoori Chicken is served with caramelized onions and the usual tomatoes and lettuce with burger buns. And of course, it came with the standard carbs of fries. The well-cooked meat was succulent and tender.

Lamb Burger MYR27
With the meat theme continuing for the night, this was my last try for the night, the Lamb burger. The homemade lamb pattie was a bit gummy, but that is because it was marinated with traditional spices before being served with homemade mushroom-sauce. In addition of the standard burger veges of tomato and lettuce, onions and capsicum was added. The burger was served with Mint chutney, Coleslaw and Fries.

Bread & Butter Pudding MYR19
This gratifying dessert was served warm and garnished with a Strawberry, Custard sauce and a pinch of Cocoa powder. But while it was yum, I am a sucker for brownies. 😁

Chocolate Brownies MYR20
I enjoyed this, a simple but splendid Chocolate Brownie served with Vanilla Gelato. The cakey texture of the brownie went very well with the soft and cold gelato, the taste of chocolate mixed with vanilla blardy good!

Citadelle Gin & Tonic

I am an avowed fan of gin, so when I checked for something I have never tried before, I was delighted to learn that they had this french gin. I had my G&T with a lemon twist, my next visits will see me experimenting with a cucumber slice and then maybe a burnt orange peel.

Fireball Cinnamon Whisky
I also had the opportunity to try their Fireball Cinnamon Whisky, neat and straight up. This firewater was sweet! First-timers will be interested to know that this is based of Canadian whisky.

And that wraps up another write-up from me. If you are ever in the neighbourhood, can give this place a try. Their foods are great, with a hint of Indian fusion and if you would like more information about their promotions and news, you can follow the restaurant's very active Facebook page and Instagram at @thetreehouse.my. If you would like to see more of my pictures of the place, can view them here.
